Kherson is Liberated by the Ukrainian Army!
This update is from Anastasia. She is an executive director of the Kherson Regional Charitable Foundation “Union” (KRCF “Union”)—a nonprofit that has been working with Global Synergy Group since the beginning of the war. In a previous post, Anastasia wrote about life and survival under Russian occupation in Kherson.
Kherson was liberated on November 11th, 2022. It was like a new birth for the residents who decided to stay in Kherson throughout the russian occupation (yes, now we write ‘russians' with a lowercase letter).
Today, the city is under constant fire from the russian army, but the spirit of the people has been revived. Volunteers, the government, and international organizations are trying to provide residents with everything they need.
So, for now, KRCF “Union” has decided to stop providing humanitarian aid in the form of food packages, which we have provided during the entire period of occupation. We have, instead, decided to direct the funds we have attracted from international donors to the purchase and distribution of generators. These generators will help people to survive in multi-apartment buildings in the absence of electricity, heating, and water. In total, we plan to purchase 22 generators and will be able to help approximately 4,000 Kherson residents.
Thanks to donations from Global Synergy Group, UCBI, the Czech Embassy in Ukraine, and the Renaissance Foundation, we collected approximately $64,000 USD in 2022. We bought and delivered 5,992 food kits to 13,567 people to help them survive the occupation and keep their hopes alive for liberation.
It is symbolic that we are writing this on Volunteer Day. Ukraine has survived thanks to the spirit of its soldiers and volunteers! And, at the very start of this terrible war, Global Synergy Group initiated a volunteer movement of people living in different parts of the world to support Ukrainians in our time of need. This is incredible, invaluable, and beautiful work.
So, what's next?
Next, our foundation plans to return more of our focus back to our core mission: community development, open data development, and anti-corruption initiatives.
However, we will continue to work closely with Global Synergy Group and are ready to accept donations to help the people of Kherson rebuild after occupation. So, if you are able to, once again, help the people of Ukraine, we are waiting for your donations to buy supplies that will help warm and brighten life in the de-occupied territories: generators, gas, and all types of lighting. From the people - to the people!
Dyakuyemo/Thank you!
