YouLEAD 2023: Meet our Students from Boryspil, Ivankiv, and Kyiv, Ukraine
In this final part of our three-part YouLEAD 2023 introductions series, we’re delighted to introduce you to the YouLEAD 2023 students from Kyiv, Boryspil (twinned with the city of Hopkins, Minnesota), and the smaller community of Ivankiv, roughly 50 miles from Kyiv.
Without further ado, let’s meet them!
Kamilla Detkina
Kyiv, Ukraine
Hello! My name is Camilla, and I am 14 years old. I have been passionately involved in the world of dance for 7 years now. Additionally, I have dedicated 5 years of my life to music. Beyond my artistic pursuits, I have a deep love for animals. I want to go to America on the YouLEAD program because I believe this program will provide me with a unique platform to develop leadership skills, immerse myself in an innovative environment and connect with young leaders from all over the world. This will be a valuable experience that will help me achieve my professional and personal goals, as well as contribute to my society.
Lavrentii Kyrkach
Kyiv, Ukraine
My hobbies are guitar, piano, volleyball, judo, and chess. I am a person who strives to develop himself. I have a fairly wide list of hobbies: music, learning foreign languages, martial arts, volleyball. My motto in life is to always stay positive and believe in yourself to the end.
Yaryna Hrynchuk
Kyiv, Ukraine
I'm a sixteen-year-old 10th grade student from Ukraine. I'm extremely interested in the work of public organizations, and I'm planning to get a degree in Ethics-Politics-Economy (this is a name of a real existing Ukrainian Catholic University’s Department). I'm good at acting, reading poems, and dealing with children (I absolutely adore them). I’d been in Lithuania for a year since the full-scale invasion started, I’ve given and taken tons of interviews, and I became interested in studying foreign cultures. Now I want to apply my skills and knowledge for the good of my motherland.

Hello! About Boryspil: I like its sunsets and activities for young people! :)
I found out about the YouLEAD program from a teacher at school, and then quickly found information on Instagram and Facebook. I like the organization, many interesting zooms, cool company and cool mentors.
I’m a copywriter and designer. I like cats, milk, hot dogs from gas stations, and gaining new experiences and knowledge. I don’t like lying on my back all the time, my time has to be used productively.
Andrii Sakhno

I'm 16 years old and I consider myself a creative person. Since childhood I was connected with creativity, I went to various additional classes such as dancing, journalism, drawing and even beadwork. All this made me understand that I also want to connect the future with this business.
I want to become a graphic designer. I have a sweet tooth, although I also like to eat some proper food. I love animals very much.
Elizaveta Pylypchuk

I am 16 years old and I am a very active person who is always looking for adventures. It is very important for me to be in the fast rhythm of life. I cannot live without projects, performances and events. A year ago, I opened my speaking club, which was initially held for teenagers from different parts of Ukraine, and now it is also held in the city. Also, since I was 5 years old, I have been performing in various concerts and taking part in singing or dancing competitions. I have many awards.
Singing is an important part of me, I write songs on the guitar and convey my emotions in this way. Also, I am such a person who always goes to the end! No matter what difficulties or problems there are on the way, I will still get to the goal.

I like speedcubing, swimming, basketball and traveling. I help to make camouflage nets in my lyceum. I am participating in YouLEAD 2023 because I want to see the experience of people from another country and bring it to Ukraine.
Katsan Veronika

I like to draw pictures by numbers, listen to music, and ride my bike. I am passionate about cooking, I like to look for new recipes and experiment. I am studying to become a primary school teacher, because I love children very much and quickly connect with them. I like to organize various events for young people that are both entertaining and informative.
Lilia Shaban

I am 15. Now I am the head of the school center of learning and discipline. My hobby is journalism and now I am taking courses to do work in children’s camps.
In my free time I like reading books, sometimes I draw. I am participating in YouLEAD 2023 because I want to learn something new, develop my leadership skills, and I want to improve my english.

I'm 15 years old. I like to learn something really new. New places, new knowledge, something that is really interesting. I like to get to know new people. I like dance because it helps me relax and disconnect from the whole world. I love traveling, this is my passion! I'm funny and I like to smile.
Mark Linkevych

I’m 16 years old. I'm a fan of boxing and IT technologies. Also I’ve played soccer since I was 7 years old. I am quite a sociable and funny boy. Sports give me an opportunity to take control in different kinds of situations, not give up, go to my goals and achieve them. In programming I can pull myself to another world where I can create everything that I want!
I am participating in YouLEAD 2023 because I would like to improve my leadership skills and to receive new experience and knowledge from another country.
Vladyslav Seliuk
Ivankiv, Ukraine
I am a very active person who participates in all charity events, I will never stand aside when someone needs help. I am participating in YouLEAD because I want to develop my leadership qualities, which will help me make our society better in the future.

The YouLEAD program has been building better leaders in Minnesota, USA, and Ukraine for over 10 years. The sister city relationship between Hopkins, MN, and Boryspil, was inspired by this work. Today, many of our YouLEAD alumni are currently leaders of grassroots organizations, NGOs, and other community organizations currently providing aid and fighting for a free, democratic, and peaceful Ukraine.
