April 1: Relief Updates

The recipients of donated funds are our colleagues and alumni of our exchange programs and other work in Ukraine. These individuals are community leaders who have established charitable organizations or NGOs in Ukraine. With electricity intermittent and internet increasingly limited, our partners are providing updates as often as is both feasible and safe.

HRTC: Human Rights Training Center (Mykolaiv Region) $5,000

  • A portion of funds this week covered the purchase of gasoline to transport elderly civilians with disabilities to safety in the Mykolaiv region. Further transportation was provided for 97 Mykolaiv families relocating to evacuation sites, including 35 elderly people with disabilities and 62 families with young children. Additional funds were used to cover transportation costs for medics and public utilities workers who are still providing services to communities in the Mykolaiv region.

NGO “CLAS” (Luhansk Region) $5,000

  • Donations were used to feed families with children in various locations across the region and assist in evacuation efforts for orphans and families with small children. Volunteers set up temporary re-settlement points on the premises of local educational institutions. A local hotel has been converted into temporary housing for internally displaced families with children, with funds covering daily meals, the purchase of mattresses, and a generator for providing electricity and pumping water from a well. Additional funds will go towards arranging additional temporary housing at local hotels for those affected by the war.

St. Thomas Aquinas Institute (Kharkiv Region) $3,000

  • The first tranche of funds received was spent on buying critical medications, which has already been collected and moved to the city of Chuhuiv in the Kharkiv region, which was heavily affected by bombing. The medications will be distributed among those civilians in need. Volunteers are in the process of readying the next order with the remaining funds.

Pomogaem Foundation (Dnipro) $1,000

  • Funds will cover relocation assistance for internally displaced families from across Ukraine. Volunteers are providing shelter, food, medical assistance, and support for families in reaching their next destination.

Ukr Farm LLC (Kyiv and Boryspil) $1,000

  • Donated funds were used to purchase critical medications and supplies to cover the needs of two border guard units located in Kyiv and Boryspil.

Parish of St. Spyridon Trimifunt (Sumy Region) $5,000

  • Transferred funds will cover the purchase of food, medicine, diapers, baby food, and some construction materials to repair roofs and windows in local communities across the Sumy region. Additionally, these funds will be used to buy gasoline, both for transportation and for generators to produce electricity.

Total amount transferred to Ukraine to date is $80,650
