April 22: Relief Updates

Last week, we shared news of the drinking water shortage in Mykolaiv, a southern city in close proximity to active fighting. With the swift support of our donors, we were able to urgently transfer funds to our trusted partner on the ground in Mykolaiv. Here is their story of how they were able to use the funds to save lives in their community:

- HRTC: Human Rights Training Center (Mykolaiv Region) $2,000

“I was able to purchase a large number of water containers and filters on my way back to Mykolaiv. My car broke down, but I made it home and used a wheelbarrow to deliver filtered water to people in need in the community. Since the start of the war, almost everyone in the city uses some kind of wheelbarrow to transport water. We have already started delivering portable water containers and filter bottles to people. I prioritize the elderly who live on the upper floors of apartment buildings. We still need more large water containers to continue purifying water and the means to transport it regularly to our community members in need.”

This week, we also wanted to provide you with updates directly from some of our partners in different regions of Ukraine. The following is a summary of their experiences, how donations from Global Synergy Group have been able to assist to date, and where we still need your help.

Many communities are struggling to access clean water, essential medical supplies, and food.

In the City of Chuhuiv (Kharkiv region), shelling and attempted strikes on military infrastructure have left the community destroyed and in need of aid. Twelve residential high-rise buildings and social infrastructure facilities have been significantly damaged, along with two boiler houses. This has left much of the city without access to heat, and stocks of food, medicine and other goods in the community are depleted.

Further, as a result of intensified hostilities in the East, many civilians from the Chuhuiv community have moved toward central and western Ukraine. The city has up to 25,000 inhabitants. These are mostly elderly people and those who have not been able to leave. With the vast majority of shops and pharmacies closed, and supply lines disrupted by constant shelling and military activity, food and medicine supplies have run out. Many people of the Chuhuiv community are in shelters during the shelling and need long-term food stocks and water filtration.

Humanitarian aid has been essential in providing support as the people in this region attempt to navigate these circumstances. Cooperation with the Chernivtsi Humanitarian Aid Headquarters and the Darnytsia Pharmaceutical Company resulted in more than three tons of cargo, with the requisite medicines, arriving in Chuhuiv. Thanks to support from donors like Global Synergy Group and l'association Ukraine Amitié (UA) à Bordeaux, we were able to provide medicine, hygiene products, and water purification systems for these people.

In the City of Kaniv (Cherkasy region), there are more than 2,000 individuals displaced by the conflict. Supporting them through this period has been crucial, and with the help of donors, we have been able to provide them with medicine and hygiene products.

In the City of Kagarlyk (Kyiv region), there are a large number of internally displaced people, as many as 12,600 - including 2,556 children. Money from donors is being used to provide the necessary medical treatment for these individuals.

In the City of Dobropillya (Donetsk region), logistics are complicated due to the proximity to active hostilities. Together with the humanitarian aid headquarters of Chernivtsi, we managed to load and deliver some humanitarian aid there. However, we have a list of the medical supplies necessary to continue to provide support in this region, and are looking to purchase large quantities of them with help from donors.

In the City of Kharkiv, enemy shelling is now taking place. We have been trying to provide aid by supplying medication to the regional hospital, but there are current requests we have been unable to satisfy. With help from donors, we may be able to help them acquire atropine, cardiomin in ampoules and video laryngoscopes. These items are expensive, but are essential in completing operations relating to mine wounds.

Further, both this hospital, and others in the city, require insulin. Further donations will be used to purchase it.

Total amount transferred to Ukraine to date is $91,650.
